Everything You Need To Know About WordPress 4.8 Features!

Simple, intuitive and ergonomic, WordPress CMS perfectly meets the requirements of the web and even has the favors of the search engine like Google. According to a recent study, WordPress powers, more than 27 percent of the Internet and the number is still counting. This rapid growth is only possible due to the contributions of the WordPress community developers around the globe.

WordPress 4.8 Features

Every year, WordPress launches few minor and major releases. This year in 2017, the newest version WordPress 4.8 is expected to be released on June 8, 2017. Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of WordPress himself is leading this major release. On May 13, 2017, WordPress released WordPress 4.8 Beta-1, with three most highlighted features, i.e.:

  1. An Improved Visual Editor Experience
  2. News & Events Widget
  3. Introduced New widgets
  4. Visual Editor Text Widget

Excited to see what these WordPress 4.8 new features really are? Let me explain them in pictorial representation.

1. Improvement in Visual Editor

With an improved version of TinyMCE 4.6, now WordPress users can get benefits of new inline link boundaries. Confused? It looks hard to understand, here is a short GIF describing the improvement in Visual Editor.

2. WordPress Events and News

WordPress community is vast and growing rapidly. Considering the growth, WordPress integrated a widget “WordPress Events and News widget” in the core to guide WordPress community about nearby events. Just enter your country or city name, all nearby events will appear in a moment.

3. Enhancements in Widgets

One of the most exciting features of WordPress 4.8 is, they have introduced three new widgets, i.e., image, audio, and video. Not only this, they have also enhanced the existing text widget. Here is the screenshot, comparing WordPress 4.8 widgets with the previous version.

Let’s see, how new widgets actually work!

a) Image Widget

Now you can easily add an image to the sidebar, footer or any specific widget area of your site by using Image Widget. Drag and drop the Image Widget into your specified widget area, select an image, set title and click save.

Now you can see, the image is displayed on the sidebar.

b) Video Widget

Drag and drop the video widget to any specific widget area, and click on add video. Now, you will have two choices, either upload a new video or insert from a third party video sharing site like YouTube.

Now you can see, the video is displayed on the sidebar.

c) Audio Widget

Just like Image and Video Widget, WordPress 4.8 introduced Audio Widget too. Just drag and drop Audio Widget on any widget area, and click on Add File. You can choose, either to upload a new audio or insert from a URL. An audio bar will be displayed on specific widget area of your site.

4. Visual Editor in Text Widget

Last, but not the least, another feature of WordPress 4.8 is Visual Editor in Text Widget. Previously, you need to have a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS to use this text widget. But, with this WordPress 4.8 updated version, you will have a visual text editor.

Test WordPress 4.8 Features
