From NFL to Fargo

After his time as an NFL punter, Mike Dragosavich returned to Fargo, North Dakota, with a new game plan. In 2009, he decided to launch a WordPress website and a magazine. As Mike recalls, “When that didn’t work out, he decided to launch a WordPress website and magazine called FMSpotlight, a local resource for what’s happening in Fargo.” This bootstrap beginnings meant learning through “watching YouTube videos and trial and error,” growing one employee at a time into the team of thirty it is today.

Overcoming Big Challenges

Growth in a smaller community came with a specific set of challenges. Mike notes that “finding local employees with advanced technical expertise is always challenging,” a reality that taught them to rely on and deeply integrate their external vendors. This need led them to seek out key partnerships. Mike says they “heard about it after researching new, better providers when we were struggling with WP Engine.” But their greatest test was yet to come. “Definitely Covid,” Mike states. “It was the toughest challenge we’ve faced.” The team survived on “long 100-hour weeks, wild ideas, and relentless perseverance.

The agency’s unique model—half local magazines, half full-service marketing agency—fuels its success. To tackle such high-stakes work, the team depends on a sophisticated toolkit. Now with an office opening in Scottsdale, Arizona, Mike’s vision for growth remains focused on excellence. “Our goal is to keep exceeding expectations with our web work so we can grow through referrals,” he says. This philosophy is driven by his core belief in action over perfection. As Mike Dragosavich puts it: “Don’t be afraid to jump out of the airplane and build the parachute on the way down.”
