The number of sites a server can handle depends on things like CMS type, traffic, and what each site actually does. Check your server’s CPU and RAM usage in the dashboard, and if either one sits above 80% consistently, that’s your sign to move up to a bigger plan.

Your new plan starts right away. Billing for your old plan stops the moment you switch, and billing for the new one begins.

For example, if you’re on Plan 1 and switch to Plan 2 on the 15th, your invoice will show 15 days of Plan 1 and the remaining days of the month billed at Plan 2’s rate.

You’re billed after you’ve used the service. Usage is tracked hourly throughout the month. On the 1st, you’ll get an invoice covering the full calendar month that just ended. Learn more about how Cloudways billing works.

When you launch a server on Flexible, you have the option to choose from five cloud providers: AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Linode.

If you pick AWS or Google Cloud, the price depends on the region you select, since those two charge different rates depending on where your server is located, usually cheaper in North America and Europe, and more expensive in Asia Pacific and South America.

DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Linode charge the same price no matter where your server is hosted.

Whichever provider you go with, you’ll always see the exact price for your region before you commit to launching.

If you exceed your bandwidth, your server won’t stop working; you’ll simply be charged for the extra amount used.

Cloudways applies tax based on your country, confirmed by your billing address. You can see the full list of countries where tax applies, and the specific rate for each, in our Fiscal Taxes Handling guide. If your country isn’t listed there, tax generally isn’t applied to your invoices.

If you’re a registered business in an eligible location, you can apply for a tax exemption by entering a valid Tax ID (VAT or GST ID) through the Cloudways platform. Once it’s verified, the exemption applies to future invoices only; tax already charged on past invoices can’t be refunded.

You can add funds to your Cloudways wallet in advance, enough to cover roughly 12 months of estimated costs, and your invoices get deducted automatically from that balance as they’re issued. This gives you an annual-style experience even though billing itself is monthly and usage-based behind the scenes.

You can pay using a credit or debit card, Visa, Mastercard, or Amex, or through PayPal.

To cancel your Cloudways account, you’d need to delete your servers and deactivate any paid add-ons; that’s what actually stops billing. You’ll still receive a final invoice for usage up to the date of cancellation. If you have no active servers or resources, you won’t be charged, even if your account stays open.

In the unfortunate event you decide to cancel, start by deleting your servers and any add-on subscriptions, that’s what stops future charges. You’ll still receive a final bill for anything used up to that point.

Once you click Delete Account, everything tied to it is removed for good. There’s no way to recover it afterward, so only take this step once you’re completely sure.

Nothing changes on your bill. Stopping a server just pauses it; the resources are still allocated to your account, so billing continues exactly as if it were running.

It depends on which cloud provider you choose when setting up your server.

For DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Linode, your hourly rate is your monthly plan price divided by 672 hours (28 days). If you run your server for a full month, your total is capped at the advertised monthly price, even in a 30- or 31-day month, so those extra 2 to 3 days are effectively free.

For AWS and Google Cloud, the hourly rate is calculated using a 30-day month instead.

Either way, if you use less than a full month, you’re only charged for the hours your server was actually active.

No, backups are mandatory and can’t be turned off. They keep your server data safe if something goes wrong.

Your saved payment method is charged automatically once your invoice is generated on the 1st of each month. If that charge fails, you’ll get an email so you can update your payment details and complete it.

If your payment doesn’t go through, we’ll retry it, then try any backup payment method you’ve added, and email you if both fail. From there, here’s what to expect if the invoice stays unpaid:

• Day 7: Your dashboard gets restricted, though your servers keep running. You’ll be warned that suspension is 48 hours away.
• Day 10: Your servers and apps are stopped. Your data’s still there, just inaccessible.
• Day 13: Applications and servers get deleted, along with a final warning that backups could be next.
• Day 28: Backups and anything left are permanently deleted, with no way to get them back.
