Q. Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you tell us a little about yourself and the story behind your business?
My name is Lance Allison, and I am the CEO of Ruby Digital Agency (RDA) based in Salt Lake City. I have a long track record of building technology businesses, and RDA was started three years ago. Although RDA is a full-service digital agency, our specialization is with migrating e-commerce sites from one platform to another including, but not limited to, WordPress/WooCommerce, Magento, Opencart, Shopify, and BigCommerce.
Q. What were some of the biggest challenges or frustrations you faced with DNS management before adopting DNS Made Easy?
The RDA team has to juggle multiple DNS editors from multiple registrars, on behalf of multiple clients, with different user interfaces, functionality, and performance levels.
Q. What was the tipping point that made you switch to DNS Made Easy? How did this decision align with your broader business objectives?
RDA had already committed to using Cloudways for all our worldwide hosting requirements. We were tremendously pleased when Cloudways announced the DNS Made Easy service as we could incorporate it into our workflow and internal training. After using DNS Made Easy for a while, we decided to point all client nameservers to Cloudways at the beginning of a migration project, and always manage them there.
Q. Since using DNS Made Easy on Cloudways, how has your website’s uptime and reliability changed? Any noticeable improvements?
Compared with many of our clients’ low-performance DNS providers, the combination of the fast and consistent load times with DNS Made Easy and Cloudways’ high-performance hosting allows us to achieve very high client satisfaction for their new e-commerce stores.
Q. What specific features of DNS Made Easy have become game-changers for your daily operations?
Easy: Instant Propagation. This was a game changer for our daily operations. Because many of our projects require moving domains between different servers, often on tight timescales, minimizing e-commerce store downtime is vital. Simultaneously we are often changing MX records and juggling other record types during migrations. You can imagine how inconvenient long propagation times are for our workflow!
Get Your Website Live Faster with Cloudways DNS Made Easy.
Manage domains for just $0.50/month and gain complete control over your website’s online presence.
Q. Could you share a specific instance where DNS Made Easy helped you avoid a critical issue or downtime?
Yes, one day e-commerce site migrations. Sometimes, for many business reasons, we are required to migrate an entire site in a single day. Previously this may have been impossible because of long propagation times. However, now we have changed our workflow, such that the first thing we do at the beginning of the day is point the nameservers to DNS Made Easy. During the day we migrate all the products, customers, and orders, build the front end, and then the go-live process is almost instantaneous with DNS Made Easy. This can cut hours off our delivery time scale.
Q. What advice would you give to other businesses considering the switch to DNS Made Easy on Cloudways?
If you are a business already using Cloudways for hosting, DNS Made Easy is a no-brainer. It’s not just the fast propagation, hopefully you are not making regular changes to the DNS records, but the fast load times have many ongoing benefits for your site.
Q. Based on your experiences, how satisfied are you with managing your DNS through DNS Made Easy on Cloudways?
Completely satisfied. Highly recommend.
Q. Looking ahead, how do you plan to leverage DNS Made Easy to enhance your business operations further?
So far, we have not fully utilized the DNS management features available through DNS Made Easy on Cloudways. If Cloudways were to add advanced functionalities like Global Traffic Direction and DNS Failover in the future, it would further improve our site performance and reliability, providing even greater value to our operations.
