Email Client

An email client is like your own personal mail helper. It provides the ability to send and receive emails, all in one application, and helps manage it.

Capabilities

Email clients are software applications that allow you to read emails and compose emails (send emails). Email clients connect to your email provider (i.e. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) using IMAP/POP3 protocols. Email clients will have features to organize your inbox, contacts, and calendars.

Benefits

Consolidated inboxes: Your email client gives you access to multiple email accounts, in one location.

Offline access: Email clients allow you to read emails and even draft emails without an internet connection.

Customization: Email clients allow you to add signatures, create folders/labels/filters.

Productivity tools: Most email clients will have a calendar, a task list, and/or provide contact management.

Real Example

You use Microsoft Outlook for work. It is your email hub, where you check your emails, schedule meetings, create reminders, and manage out-of-office auto-replies, while you are on vacation.

Things to remember

If your email clients are not configured correctly, there is a chance that you can miss emails altogether. If you have local storage of emails it should be backed up. Hardware failure happens.
