A Concise Introduction to Zend Framework

Zend Framework is an open source PHP development framework. It supports object-oriented programming and has a huge library of components and packages that can be installed and used independently. Zend Framework 3 is the latest stable version the framework that supports PHP 7.

Now let’s get started with the installation process.

To setup Zend Framework 3 on Cloudways, you need a Cloudways account. It is a robust and reliable hosting service for agencies, bloggers, website owners and ecommerce stores. If you don’t have a Cloudways account, you can easily sign up for an account.

Create a Server and an Application

Login to your Cloudways accounts and create a new server. Fill in the server and the application detail. Select PHP Stack as your application and provide an application name, server name and other project related details. Select your favorite Cloud provider, scale your server size according to your needs, select your location and launch the server! In a matter of minutes, your cloud server and the application are ready for action.

Launch SSH Terminal

Now that the server and the application is ready, open the server by clicking the server name.

Next, click the Launch SSH Terminal button, as shown in the screenshot below.

Login with the username and password provided in Master Credentials.

How to Install Zend Framework 3

To install Zend Framework 3, first go to the application folder. In order to do that, type in the following commands.

Now, type the following command to start the Zend framework installation process:

Zend Framework 3 installation will begin and you could follow the process on the screen:

Several seconds into the installation process, it will ask you the question:  you want a minimal install (no optional packages)? Y/N. Type in N. After that, it will ask you about component installation. It will generate prompts for individual components and you could answer according to your needs.

Next, the process will ask which file to inject. For now, do not inject anything and select 0 for all of them.

Finally, you will see the following prompt:

The installation process is now over. It is now time to launch the application from the menu.

Click the Launch Application (Cloudways provides you a free staging domain!)

Remember to append /skeleton-application/public/ to the URL.

And here you go – The Zend Framework 3 application is now live!!
