Platform as a Service (PaaS)

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud-based computing model in which a third-party provider delivers hardware and software tools to users over the internet. PaaS provides users with a framework that eliminates the need to manage or set up databases, servers, networks and storage infrastructure.

There are multiple providers that offer PaaS solutions, including AWS Lambda (an offshoot of Amazon Web Services. The Cloudways managed hosting platform is a PaaS provider that combines the flexibility of dedicated servers with the simplicity of PaaS to control your servers and web applications in just a few clicks.
The main advantages of PaaS are simplicity and convenience for users, many of will be developers. PaaS reduces infrastructure management tasks by automating maintenance activities or completely doing away with them. It also removes the complexities of scaling, load balancing and distributing services. PaaS enables businesses to adopt cutting-edge products and technologies without having to change their operational procedures.
When developing software, PaaS does not take the place of a company’s entire IT infrastructure. It is offered through the hosted infrastructure of a cloud service provider; typically, users access the services via a web browser. PaaS can be used to supply services like Java development and application hosting through public, private and hybrid clouds. Learn more here.
