Cloudways is a Managed Cloud Hosting Platform, which means you are free from having to worry about many tedious tasks, such as security of your servers. From deployment to domain pointing, from backups to scaling, you just need a single click and it’s done!
A lot, and I mean a lot, of our customers deploy the PHP-based web apps on our world-class Cloud Platform. So, it’s important we make the latest PHP versions available to our valuable customers.
However, not all websites are optimized for the newest versions. What if your website is running great on PHP 5.4, and you don’t want to upgrade it to version 5.6? It’s not fair to force you to do so, is it?
That’s why, Cloudways gives you the prerogative to decide the PHP version of your servers. But remember! Implement the changes on a testing server before taking it to the production server.
You may choose from the following PHP versions: 5.4, 5.5, or 5.6. You can change your PHP version at any time; you may go from 5.4 to 5.6, or from 5.6 to 5.5, or any other change between these three choices.
Likewise, for databases, Cloudways offers the ever-popular database types: MySQL and MariaDB. For your choice, think carefully, because you cannot downgrade once you have upgraded. You may make the following package deployment choices:
MySQL 5.5 âž¡ MySQL 5.x
MySQL 5.5 âž¡ MariaDB 10.x
MySQL 5.6 âž¡ MySQL 5.7
MariaDB 10.0 âž¡ MariaDB 10.x
MariaDB 10.1 âž¡ MariaDB 10.2 & 10.3
MariaDB 10.2 âž¡ MariaDB 10.3
Before making the decision to change anything, make sure you deploy it on a testing server first. Don’t implement the changes to your production server without testing!
