How to Install and Enable Redis on Joomla

Updated on December 9, 2021

3 Min Read

If you’re looking to boost the performance of your Joomla website, Redis can be a powerful tool to help you achieve faster page load times and improve user experience. Redis is an in-memory data structure store that can be used as a database, cache, and message broker, and it’s compatible with most Joomla web hosting services, including Cloudways. In this guide, we’ll show you how to install and enable Redis on Joomla so you can enjoy the benefits of faster website speeds and better user engagement.

In my previous post, I explained the process of installing SSL on Joomla, this time I’ll show you how to enable Redis Cache on Joomla, as Google has officially made site speed an important ranking factor and those sites that load slowly on a PC or a mobile will see their rankings drop.

Caching is one way to speed up your website.

There is a variety of caching options available out there for Joomla, Redis cache being one of the best. In this post, I’ll teach you how to install Redis in Joomla.

Install Redis on a Server

I’m using Cloudways because it makes the server installation process much easier.

Unlike a traditional host, you can install Redis with just a few clicks on Cloudways.

So, for installing Redis on the server, first navigate to the main server dashboard, and click ‘Settings & Packages’ on the left toolbar.

Now, click the ‘Packages’ tab.

Here, you will see an ‘Install’ button beside Redis, simply click it to install and enable Redis.

Wasn’t it easy?

This is because of Cloudways, which has literally boiled down the complex process of command line configuration and server-side knowledge into a two-step code-free process.
