WooCommerce 4.2 – A Minor Release

March 25, 2021

WooCommerce 4.2

WooCommerce has just released a new version 4.2. This minor update has been in the development process since April of this year and the core WooCommerce team worked around the clock to make it a great fit for the ecommerce businesses.

If you compare the changes and dive deeper into this new version, you’ll find some exciting functions & hooks, and a whole lot of bug fixes and improvements.

IMPORTANT: Before upgrading your WooComemerce installation to version 4.2, I strongly recommend either backing up your website or cloning it at a staging site (The Cloudways Platform greatly simplifies the process of setting up staging sites). This way, if something goes wrong, your live site will remain operational.

Here’s What’s New in WooCommerce 4.2

While there are numerous improvements and bug fixes, this release is mainly focused on stability and performance. Along with these enhancements and improvements, there are some new functions and hooks.

  1. A new hook “woocommerce_menu_order_count” is introduced that enables filtering for the count of processing orders shown on the menu.
  2. Some hooks are modified and improved including “woocommerce_attribute_label” where they fixed a bug and “woocommerce_matched_rates” where the team added a “customer” argument.

The new release is compatible with WordPress 5.2 and higher versions.

Starting from this release, the WooCommerce team will adapt an L-2 sliding window support policy where the WC core team will officially support and work with the current WordPress version and the latest versions of two previous releases.

So now you know what’s new in WooCommerce 4.2, do test this new release and share your experience in the comments below.
