Does the idea of accidentally deleting your applications or your server fill you with a sense of cold, creeping dread? That’s no surprise. While the Cloudways support team has always facilitated server recovery, it could take them up to a whole day to get through the backlog; in April and May 2021, the team had to wade through 350 requests to recover deleted applications, and 105 requests to recover deleted servers.
So you’d be losing out on valuable traffic and potential conversions as you waited for your deleted servers or applications to get back in action. And that’s precious time that the support team could be spending on resolving other pressing issues for you.
That’s why we figured it was high time to put the power of server and application recovery into the right hands: yours!
Forget queuing for our support team to recover your apps and servers – see how you can do it all yourself in a matter of minutes with our brand new recovery feature.
How Can You Recover a Deleted Application with this Feature?
In the past, if you needed an application or server recovered, you’d have to go to Live Chat support, or create a ticket. Then you’d hang around for support to recover it in 8 to 24 hours.
With the new recovery feature, however, you can now easily recover your deleted application from the last available backup, on the same server as before or on a different server.
All you have to do is:
- Log in to your Cloudways Platform using your credentials.
- From the top menu bar, open Applications, and choose your Application from the given list.
- Next, click Recover Application. You can recover your application on the same server, a different server, or a new server.
- Finally, click Continue.
Depending on the size of your application, the recovery process may take a few minutes. The recovered application will have a new default Cloudways Application URL. Therefore, any associated DNS records have to be updated.
And voilà ! You’re all set.
What About Recovering a Deleted Server?
It’s just as simple. Here’s how you do it.
- Log in to your Cloudways Platform using your credentials.
- From the top menu bar, open Servers, and choose your server from the list.
- Then click Recover Server.
The server recovery time will vary depending on the size of the applications on that server.
With server recovery, you’ll be able to recover all applications hosted on the deleted server from the last available backup. All the application’s web files and databases will be recovered. The server will have a new IP address, and the applications will have a new default Cloudways Application URL. That means any associated DNS records have to be updated.
Keep the Following Points in Mind
- There’s no extra cost to using this feature, but only users with a full account can access it.
- Deleted servers or applications without any available backup cannot be recovered.
- Cloudways will store your last available backup for 15 days – after that time, you won’t be able to use your backups for recovery.
- Deleted staging applications can not be recovered.
To Sum Up
The recovery feature is a highly easy to use UI addition that lets you restore any application to a given server, or restore a full server. It lets you access all the recovery functionality as the support team, so you no longer have to rely on them for restoration. And that also frees up support to help you with other intensive tasks instead. It’s win-win all around!
