How to Host WordPress Multisite on AWS EC2 (Amazon Cloud)

Reading Time: 5 minutes

The concept of WordPress Multisite came into existence with the introduction of WordPress 3.0. For the first time, Matt Mullenweg, in collaboration with the large WordPress community, presented the idea of merging individual WordPress websites into a single WordPress dashboard. The purpose of doing it was simple; to provide ease of access to people owning multiple domains on WordPress.

With WordPress Multisite, managing and creating content for many websites becomes rather easy. With a single username and password account, you can now allow people limited access to organize and create content on directed domains so they can easily share settings, options, plugins, themes, content, code, etc.

Importance of Using Multisite

Assuming that you have a rather large network of websites to operate through and you want to merge the management into a single administration, then multisite has quite a lot to offer you. If you own an organization with several branches region-wide or own a domain that has multiple subdomains, WordPress multisite becomes a “hands-off” website builder solution for you. From schools, colleges, universities to law firms, libraries, and hospitals, irrespective of the business you own, multisite can easily integrate your separate domains under a single flag.

Importance of a Hosting Platform

To install WordPress multisite dashboard, you need a web hosting platform as it might get a bit tricky hosting it directly on a hosting service. Technicalities are involved, and it takes away your resources.

Having a managed WordPress hosting platform curtails down the probability of dependence on acquiring individual services and makes you the sole manager of your server (Cloud: AWS) and application (WordPress multisite). It makes it easier for you to deploy your application and save your resources, especially your time.
