Your spam folder is probably filled with tons of emails that sell numerous ways to make money online. I can’t quite comment on the authenticity of those promotional emails; however, I can tell you my version of making money online and that’s monetizing your blog — provided that you have one, up and running.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t already have a blog, you can always read my guide on how to build a profitable blog. It’s no rocket science and it only requires your time as well as commitment. Some may argue that building a blog is easy, but finding those early readers isn’t. I think I have you covered there as well!

Getting straight to the point; here are six ways to monetize your blog – the right way!

Join the Affiliate Marketing World

Affiliate marketing is one of the most widely used methods to generate revenue through blogging. To put it in simple words, you recommend/review products and services to people in exchange for commission on the sales you make.

Assuming that you have a blog and it caters to a particular (hopefully profitable) niche then you have the grounds ready to leverage your blog for affiliate marketing. Take the example of an influencer in the web development field. He or she probably has tons of followers, who daily visit his or her blog for updates and news; the particular blogger can use his content for referring customers to a product or service related to the field of web development.

But how do you actually carry out affiliate marketing? It’s a simple process. Lookup brands that offer affiliate programs, sign up for any of them that best suits your interests/niche and promote their product in exchange for commission on sales. That’s it.

Pay Per Click or PPC

This is a method of monetizing your blog that you can include in your strategies even if you are a new blogger with few visitors. As the name suggests, pay-per-click or PPC gets you paid every time your blog visitor clicks on the ads you have placed.

The kinds of ads vary from text to images and it is automatically updated from the ad provider itself; you just have to sign up and follow the usual PPC procedure. The nature of ads will ideally depend on the kind of content that your blog has. Google AdSense is well known in the PPC business and it is open for all kinds of blogs; even for those with a smaller reader base.

If you want to make the best of PPC method, try placing these ads on pages of your blog that have the highest click-through rate or CTR. Rest assured, Google and other ad providers have their means to figure out if you’re clicking these ads yourself.  So act wisely in order to avoid any sort of permanent ban on PPC campaigns in the blogging world.

Make Use of Advertising Space

Advertising space on your website works similar to the real estate business where you rent off a particular spot of your page to a business that has the same audience as yours. You can approach brands yourself to offer you their adverts or if your content is well known among the audience, then chances are the respective companies will approach you.

Whatever be the case, you get to place their advertisements on your blog and the cost is usually negotiated between the two parties and will depend on the traffic on your blog. Generally, bloggers rent out the ad space for a certain time and commit to continue driving regular traffic.

Catch Paid Reviews

Another way to monetize your blog is to offer space for paid reviews, but you won’t really get any unless your blog has regular influx of traffic. Once again, the products being reviewed and your audience must belong to the same niche. You can’t have a review on popular diamond rings while your blog talks about furniture.

Paid reviews are basically businesses in your niche asking for your time and space on the blog. They provide you with free trial of their product along with payment, so that you can write them a review. It must be noted that it is not mandatory to write a positive review even if you’re getting paid for it.

Market your Own Product or Sell Services

If you already have a business that offers products or services and you’re just thinking of blogging to advertise it, then I must say its a great move!

All you need to do is to start talking about your product on your blog;  but try not to go overboard with it. Instead, the ideal practice is to engage readers in your content, solving their pain points and helping them build their business; and, while doing so, you carefully slide in your product or service that has a sure benefit for them.

If you only opt to talk about your offerings on the blog, then you might as well just call it an online store. Worse still, it appears as a spamming platform to your visitors. Try gathering a regular readership with quality content and then pitch them your product or services slowly but steadily.

Sell Membership Access to Tutorials & Guides

You can restrict access to your blog’s content (or some of it) to only paid members. If you are a heavy influencer of your niche and have a highly valuable content on your blog, then charging a nominal fee to gain full access to your blog’s content is a smart way to impose even more authority. Paid content usually includes in-depth tutorials and guides, selective lyrics, a collection of cheat codes for a trending video game, etc.

Take the example of Wall Street Journal, you need to purchase membership in order to read through its blogs and that’s because of the quality of its content. Similarly, if you’re a professional developer with command over a certain scripting language, then you can sell membership to a portal where you have ready-to-go functions and apps that can be deployed to set up a business platform.
