And considering the overwhelming growth in the sphere of ecommerce, it is safe to say that the industry has come a long way. Since Amazon’s launch of online shopping site in 1995, the industry has transformed immensely, giving birth to new opportunities for entrepreneurs and startups.

Kogan is the largest online departmental store in Australia, which was created by Ruslan Kogan in 2006.

Till now they have delivered millions of products worldwide. The store sells electronic products, home appliances and groceries directly to consumers. But they are best known for products relating to electronics including TVs, tablets and phones.

According Kogan’s 2016 annual report, revenue for 2016 grew to $10.9 million when compared to 2015.


The Iconic is a leading online fashion and sports retailer in Australia and New Zealand. Since their launch in 2011, the retailer has become popular among Australian online fashion retailers and stocks over 700 brands and 50,000 items.

Within a short span of six years they’ve grew from five employees to over 400 employees. The retailer also has the award-winning mobile app which is also Australia’s most downloaded fashion app.

GFG which comprises of fashion brands including Lamoda, Namshi, Zalora and The Iconic saw a 10% increase in its revenue in 2016.


The Gap, Inc. is an American clothing and accessories retailer based in San Francisco, California and was founded in 1969 by Donald and Doris Fisher. Its HQ offices are in London, China, Japan and Canada.

With the potential to ship in more than 214 countries, GAP is surely one of the most iconic brand in the fashion industry. Gap leads the fashion industry (both online and offline) with its clothes available in 90 countries with 3,300 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and ecommerce sites.

In 2016, GAP’s active customers increased by 25%, whereas overseas customers  increased by 28%. At the same time, the company saw an increase of 30% in its total orders in 2016.


The American brand is the leading multinational office supply retailing corporation with more than 1,500 stores in North America. Headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, Staple generates major part of their sales through online selling.

Staples sell a wide range of products which includes staples, office machines, promotional products, technology, and business services both in stores and online. In 2016, Staples saw a growth in their sales by 25%.


A global online fashion and beauty retailer, offering womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, jewellery and beauty products. ASOS is a hub for fashion thriving community offering a wide variety of fashion related content.

ASOS revenue grew to 26% and operating profit increased by 37% in 2016. They sell over 80,000 branded and own-brand products through mobile and web.

They deliver products to almost every country in the world from their fulfilment centers located in UK, US, Europe and China.


The City A.M.’s Business of the Year Award winner, Boohoo is a UK based online fashion retailer that was founded in 2006 by Joint Chief Executives Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane.

Boohoo is surely a fan’s favorite brand with over 4 million fans on social and an online magazine. In 2016, Boohoo’s revenue grew by 40% whereas 33% of its revenue was generated outside UK.

On average, Zappos employees answer 5,000 calls a month, and 1,200 e-mails a week. Their goal is to make Zappos the best place for customer service in the world.


QVC is the world’s leading digital retailer as millions of people from all around the globe shop from them.

The business offers a wide range of products with top and famous brands such as HP, Dooney & Bourke, Perricone MD, Beats by Dre, Fitbit, and Vitamix.

They shipped approximately 183 million units in 2016 across its global markets. QVC has a growing global ecommerce business, which accounted for $4 billion of annual revenue in 2016.
