Nowadays Amazon is one of the leading providers of cloud hosting but failures occurred even in this company. In April Amazon Web Services (AWS) have not been working almost for a week because of serious failure in Amazon data center in Northern Virginia.
The popularity of cloud computing is increasing day by day. More and more companies prefer using clouds for business purposes. And a lot of them choose AWS for hosting their services that’s why Amazon’s outage affected their work. Many web sites just went down, among them are Foursquare and Quora. Due to Amazon’s fame abroad suffered not only US-based companies, but also foreign ones.
This embarrassing for Amazon fact gives food for thought and raises the question about cloud and security once again. Despite the fact that clouds facilitate the work of companies and don’t require powerful hardware and a lot of human resources, they are not 100 per cent safe as any other technology. That’s why every company should know about possible failures and create necessary protection tools to implement in case of force majeure.
If the company has proper defense of failure it can use all the advantages of clouds without being afraid that some day their cloud services will stop working. Exactly a good “Design for Failure” is the reason why services of AWS major customers Netflix and SimpleGeo were not affected.
