After going through a lot of customer feedback and requests, Remote MySQL connections have arrived on the Cloudways Platform. This feature opens up a range of possibilities for innovative use cases of the Cloudways Platform. We realized that the absence of the feature was a significant gap in our offering for users who required setting up remote MySQL connections to their databases hosted on the Cloudways managed servers.
Like everything else, the process of setting up remote MySQL connections is a simple process. The users just have to whitelist the IP of the remote server that would initiate the connection. Once done, the remote connection could be initiated without any problems. Read the knowledge base entry to know more.
The Benefits For The Users
The Remote MySQL connections feature is a great way of separating the application and database components, thereby greatly enhancing the security of critical files of the application.

A typical real-world application usually has a large database to begin with. The size only increases as further data accumulates. To mitigate the disk space and application speed issues, users could host the database on Cloudways managed servers. Since the application is hosted on another server (which doesn’t have to be necessarily Cloudways managed), its IP would need to be whitelisted before the two servers could communicate.
Remote MySQl connections is just one of the many features that enhances the user experience of our platform and ensure that the users are able to get the most out of the powerful, yet easy-to-use platform.
We hope that our users would use this feature to add value to their applications.
