Here’s how you can launch your cloud server on Cloudways

Launch Custom PHP Application

After you sign-up, you can launch custom PHP application on any cloud provider available. Provide the name of application and server and select the project on which you want to launch it.

Select Server Size

After you’ve selected your desired cloud infrastructure, choose the server size based on the traffic of your Moodle website – you can scale it later when there’s a need.

Select Your Server Location

Next, select the location of your server. You can choose a datacenter that is nearest to your audience or home country.

Once you’ve filled the necessary fields, click the “Launch Now” button.  Wait for a while, until the server launched. Next, login to SSH terminal using Master Credentials.

Now, navigate to your application folder using the following cd command:

Cd applications/your_app/public_html

Here, you can download Moodle files. But, first open Moodle website and copy the URL of zip file on download button.

Now, go back to SSH window and run the following command:

Wget https://download.moodle.org/download.php/stable36/moodle-3.6.3.zip

The zip file will be copied to public folder. You can check by `ls` command:

Now, run the following command to unzip the folder:

Unzip moodle-3.6.3.zip

This will take sometime to unzip all the files. Move all the files to root folder using this command:

Mv moodle/* .

Now, open the application URL (from access details page), it will redirect you to the Moodle installation page. Remember, if you are installing Moodle in sub directory, then add it to the main URL, like I’ve installed on my website in sub-folder : https://shahroznawaz.com/moodle

You will see the page like this:

Now, select language, and click ‘Next’ button. You can change the directory as required otherwise leave as default:

If you are facing error with data directory, you can select private_html directory to write user data. In my case the URL will look like this:

Data directory: /home/master/applications/qmsfumgabd/private_html

Click ‘Next’ button. You must select MySql as database and click ‘Next’ button. Now, enter the database details which you can find in application access details page:

After entering the details, hit the ‘Next’ button. You will see the copyright agreement. Read out in full, and click ‘Next’ again, and continue it until you come to the User Profile window:

After submitting the information, click ‘Next’ button, and enter your frontend page details:

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Moodle on custom PHP application. You can visit the home page in browser.
