How To Find Early Readers For Your New Blog

by Tahha Ashraf  August 9, 2017

If you think starting a blog was the only hurdle you had to overcome in order to build a profitable blog, then I’m sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not how ordinary WordPress bloggers became celebrities.

early readers for your blog

If you assumed that you’d start a blog and readers will pop up on your website to learn from your wisdom, then sorry to disappoint you here, but things work differently in real world. Starting a blog is indeed a big deal, but getting readers to you new blog is an even bigger task; come on, you didn’t think Tom McFarlin, Kim Doyal or Syed Balkhi  became WordPress celebrities overnight, did you? It takes time, practice and a proper plan to build a subscriber base for a blog.

As a new blogger, you can start out by telling your friends and family; even if they aren’t interested in what you’re talking about but at least they’d be interested in you. Either way, they’ll spread the word, but that won’t be enough fame for your blog.

So how do you go about finding those early readers for your blog (Excluding your friends and family who can be reached directly)?. I have listed down some key pointers to help you out in this regard.

Connect With Other Bloggers

Connecting with other bloggers within your niche is another important step towards finding early readers for your blog; however, it is not something that can be achieved overnight. For starters, look out for bloggers who are in the same niche as you and see what methods they use to attract audience.

You’ll find numerous articles on the Internet that talk about ways to connect with bloggers in detail. For now, just know that connecting with players in your line of work will help you build up a decent subscriber base. Initially, it is advised not to reach out to big fish in the sea, instead focus on bloggers who recently started to grow their subscriber base.

Make Use Of Guest Posts

Guest post is a two-way street, but it doesn’t mean that you have to write a blog for someone because you have accommodated their content on your site. To put it in simple words, you can write content for blogs who are open to receiving guest posts or ask other bloggers to write for you.

This time, I’d suggest you to seek established blogs with much larger subscriber base if you are thinking to submit a guest post. This way, your content will entertain more readers and probably drive them to your blog. For example if you’re writing about “the greatest footballers of last two decades” then you might want to pitch it to popular sports websites.

These guest posts allow you to add author’s information and a link to their profile. As for the publishing a guest post on your blog, well, you’ll have to wait a little longer before your blog is on the radar of other freshies.

Optimize Your Blog

If you have already started blogging then you must have noticed that few of your posts outperform other posts and there is a valid reason for it. Not every post you make is meant to beat the last one in terms of attracting viewers; however, you can optimize the outperforming ones and take them to the next level.

Some starting guidelines to optimizing your blog would be focusing on long-tail keywords and including keywords in specific parts of your post such as headline, shoulder, and URL; not to forget the meta description. You don’t have to be an SEO expert to go about these basic steps of optimizing your blog. All it takes is some understanding of Google Analytics and you can easily look over how your blog posts are performing in terms of traffic.

Be Part Of Blogging Communities

As a new blogger, it is important that you are a part of a blogging community that connects people of similar interests. For example, you if your blog caters to “parenting” then you ought to join communities that have people who are about to become parents; well, you get the idea. Being part of communities help you target the right audience without going the extra mile.

Moreover, you can share your blog within these communities and expect a decent quantity of relevant traffic in the first go. However, it must be noted that the quality of content matters the most in this case. You need returning visitors from communities. Finding a community is not at all difficult since the advent of social media, so you know how to go about it.

Don’t Forget the Pinch of Salt

Not saying that including the aforementioned pointers in your strategy won’t help with those early readers for your site, but nothing on the Internet can guarantee you 100% results. Keep producing quality content with fresh angles, connect and follow other bloggers of your niche to see how they do it, and try not to over optimize your posts. And most importantly, don’t forget to share it with like-minded people.
