A lot of cloud service providers are looking for different ways to make cloud computing more trustworthy and attract new customers. Dr. Alexander Pasik, Chief Information Officer at IEEE, thinks that cloud security insurance can help them to reach their goals.
Pasik claims that security concerns around cloud computing are exaggerated. He compares clouds with banks. “If you’re worried about security, I would ask: Do you keep your money under your mattress? We keep our money in banks because it’s safer, and not just physically. A lot of the safety comes from the idea that the bank deposits are insured.”
Alexander Pasik is sure that it is quite secure to store sensitive information on cloud servers because cloud service providers invest more money and have more tools to protect data than individual enterprises. Insurance against breaches will not eliminate threats, but will help to make high-level security affordable for every user.
However many experts consider this idea controversial. A lot of people are not sure that this kind of insurance can help to solve cloud and security question like auto insurance does not reduce the number of accidents on the road. Further, even if you have roadside assistance, you have to bear the pains associated with automobile failure due to any reason. No doubt, you’ll get help but it cannot compensate for the trouble and inconvenience. According to skeptics insurance will make cloud services more expensive that can lead to distraction of potential customers.
