Magento coupon code

A coupon code is the most effective and simple way to boost your business on your Magento ecommerce store. This code also helps you to set up the promotions on your store, and to give the customers free shipping for a short time for their loyalty towards your store and giving them discount offers based on your own terms and conditions.

This is the reason I’ll show you the easiest way to create Magento coupon code so that your customers will reap as many advantages from these promotions as they can!

How to Create Magento Coupons?

To do so, start from admin panel as always. Go to Promotions >> Shopping Cart Price Rules from the main menu at the top.

Magento Price Rule

At the resulting page you will see an orange button on the top-right of the page that is called as Add New Rule. Now for the sake of new rule you have to hit this button.

Magento Add New rule

We are creating a new rule that will help us to determine the suitable shopping cart for the coupon code. That is why we are here setting up our new rule after you have clicked on Add New Button you will land on a new page where you can configure your rule.

On this page, you have to notice the side menu. You have to fill in all the information step by step for each of them.

Let’s get started with Rule Information.

Magento Admin Rule Information

As it is obvious by the name, you have to fill in all the information regarding your rule. Start by entering the Rule Name. Here I provided the name as Discount Offer. The requirement for the second field is the Description of your rule that will explain it in a more detailed manner.

Next, if you want your coupon to be used just set the Status value to Active. From the Website field, you have selected the customers from Main Website and the customers mentioned in the Customer Groups will be the group of customers on which the coupon is eligible to use.

Furthermore, I have set the value of Coupon to Specific Coupon which you can change to autogenerated. Next, enter the Coupon Code if you want to add it, otherwise, check the checkbox right below this field to auto-generate the system for you. Scrolling down, you will see two most important fields to be filled that are Uses per Coupon and Uses per Customer. You can set the integer value according to your own strategy. Now set the To Date and From Date according to your choice and last the Priority field is here if you want to give this particular rule to be more important than others.

Now choose Conditions, the second option in the left menu of the page. This is the option where you have to establish and apply your rule.

By clicking on the “+” radio button a drop down will appear. From there, you have to choose an item that you want to put a condition on your rule.

These are the options

Conditions Options

Here with the help of this figure you can see different conditions and the combinations of rules. If you want to add more conditions, you can do so by clicking on the green button as many times as you want to from the drop-down menu that will appear. Here I select a Subtotal option.

Conditions Subtotal

The Third option on the left menu of the Promotion page is Actions. You have to select it and start applying actions on your new rule.

Actions

The first field Apply needs you to provide the info about how your rule will be applied. Select the value by the drop-down menu. You can select Percent of Product price Discount if you want to apply some percentage of the amount depending on the product that you have bought. Fixed amount discount if you want to apply a fixed amount regardless of any product or item. Fixed amount discount for whole cart allows you to apply fixed amount on the whole cart and last Buy X get Y free means if you buy the product you will get Y product for free. This option is also feasible if you want to attract more customers.

Discount Amount is the field where you have to put the discount value that you want to apply.

If Apply to Shipping Amount is set to No, this means the shipping amount that you are charging on shipment of the product is excluded. It means you are not applying the discount on this amount.

Free Shipping if you want to give your customers free shipping on only this particular rule you have to set this value to Yes. If no then set this value to No.

Stop Further Rules Processing if you want no further rules to be applied after this particular rule. Set this value to Yes or No.

After doing all the above actions, press the orange Save button to save all the configurations that you have made.

After adding new rules you have to generate coupon codes. For this, go to the last option from your left menu i.e Manage Coupon Codes.

Manage Coupon Codes

Here you need to enter the Coupon Information. Coupon Qty field requires the information regarding the quantity of the coupon that you want to generate the code for.

Code Length Here you have to enter the integer value indicating the length of your code.

Code Format The format of the code that can be Alphanumeric, Numeric, Alphabetic etc.

Code Prefix The text that you want to appear before the coupon code.

Code Suffix The text that you want to appear after the coupon code.

Dash Every X Characters here if you want – (dash) to appear after some numbers then enter the value after which you want the dash. For example, if I want the dash to appear after every 5 numbers, then I have to put 5 here. So my code will be something like ABC12-DEF34-GHI56

Now that you have the list of coupons that you have created, you now have to export to CSV or Excel XML format. And each of these coupons can be used on Catalog version A or Catalog version B.

Now use one code for a test order and see how the rule is applied in the shopping cart.

Now I’ll create a custom report regarding the coupon that we used to do this go to Reports >> Sales >> Coupons and now create the custom report of the promotion.
